Statement Of Faith

Bible.png

Dayspring Classical Christian School (DCCS) has as its doctrinal statement the Westminster Confession of Faith (WCF). We encourage all parents to read that confession, but we offer the document below as a summary of its basic doctrines. Though every part of the WCF does not have to be affirmed by those who enroll their children in DCCS, we want parents to understand that this is what all students will be taught as a part of their Bible Curriculum.

1.   We believe that the 66 books of the Bible, comprising the Old and New Testaments, were given by verbal inspiration of God to those men He chose. As such, the Bible is not the word of men but the Word of God, infallible, without error, and authoritative in every matter it addresses. Exodus 20, Psalm 119, Matthew 5:17-18, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:21

2.   We believe that God is a Trinity - that is, He is one God revealed in three distinct but unified persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each one is equally God in essence, attributes, and power.
Matthew 3:16-17, Matthew 28:19-20, John 14:16-17, 2 Corinthians 13:14

3.   We believe that God spoke into existence out of nothing the entirety of the universe, indeed all things, including mankind, in the span of six days. God especially created men and women to be distinct from the animals, being expressly made in His image. He has put His absolute moral law into every person’s conscience, endowing every human being with an internal knowledge of basic universal right and wrong. He has assigned to every person one of two genders, and He ordained the sexual relationship to be only between one man and one woman in the context of the marriage covenant. Genesis 1:1-3, John 1:1-4, Acts 17:24-28, Matthew 19:4-6, Romans 1:19-27, Romans 2:14-16

4.   We believe that the human race fell into sin through the disobedience of the first man, Adam. As a result of his sin everyone born after him was born with an inclination to sin, and everyone faces inevitable death, something which was not part of God’s original creation.  Thus, without God’s grace and intervention, every man or woman born will continue to choose to rebel against God as Adam did. Genesis 3, Romans 5:12-19

5.   We believe that Jesus Christ was God come to earth as real man, born as a baby of the virgin Mary. He had both a human and divine nature - such that He experienced life and temptation as a man, but without sin as only God is. He came with the express purpose of dying on the cross as a substitute for all who would believe in Him, taking their sin upon Himself, and giving them His righteousness. He was raised from the dead on the third after His death. This He did to save His people from the consequences of their sins. Isaiah 9:6-7, Isaiah 53, John 1:1-2, Matthew 1:18-21, Romans 5:8, Romans 6:23, Hebrews 4:15, 2 Corinthians 5:21

6.   We believe that this salvation that Jesus came to complete is granted to men and women only by God’s grace and through faith in the work of Jesus on the cross.  No person is justified - declared right with God - on the basis of any good works or religious rites he or she does.  It is received rather, by turning from one’s sin to Jesus, placing one’s total trust in the work of Jesus Christ. Jesus then, is the ONLY way to God, or to be made right with God. John 3:16-18, John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Romans 1:16-17, Ephesians 2:8-9

7.   We believe that because of mankind’s sinful nature, it is impossible for any person to seek God on- or come to Jesus to be justified and forgiven of sin - on his own. Because of this, God the Father by His grace chose before creation specific persons whom He would give to Jesus, to belong to Him. Those He chose, He draws to Jesus Christ, changing their wills so that they freely choose to repent of sin, believe in Him, and receive His salvation. John 6:44 & 55, Romans 8:28-9:29, Ephesians 1:3-10, Ephesians 2:1-6

8.   We believe that justification is a position that cannot be lost, and that those who are truly justified by God will bear the fruit of obedient living in this world. John 6:39, John 10:27-28, Philippians 1:6

9.   We believe that Jesus Christ is building His church, made up of all those who are justified by faith in Him. It is therefore the obligation of Christians to be a part of a local church body, meeting with other believers for corporate worship of God on the LORD’s Day, and every day serving fellow believers as they follow as each seeks to follow the LORD. Matthew 16:18, Ephesians 4:11-16, Colossians 3:15-16, 1 Peter 2:4-5, Hebrews 10:24-25

We believe that there are two sacraments given to the church, water baptism and the LORD’s Supper. These sacraments have no saving efficiency in themselves, but are signs pointing to what the LORD has worked in the believer. Baptism is administered to both believers and their children, while the LORD’s Supper is only administered to those who have personally received saving grace. Luke 22:14-20, 1 Corinthians 11:17-34, Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 16:11-34

10.   We believe that Jesus Christ is coming again to gather His people still living on earth to Himself, and to raise with new bodies those who have died trusting in Jesus Christ. All those who are His will live forever with Him in a new heaven and earth.  Matthew 24:29-31, John 14:1-3, Acts 1:6-11, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, 1 Corinthians 15:50-55
